A Picture Is Worth A 1,000 Words
To start our eighth year of ringing for audiences across Oklahoma, we thought we needed some new photos of our artists and a few pictures of the entire ensemble. After a massive calendar search to find a date on which twenty people could agree, we are thrilled to show our new photos to the world! Of course, no photo shoot is complete without someone doing hair, makeup, and clicking the shutter. We want to give our thanks to Erin Zook of Behind the Scenes Salon (Norman, OK) an

The readers fo So6ix Magazine used a text voting system to nominate and then vote for who they believed were the best in each category. In just one month, So6ic received tens of thousands of votes between all of the categories. We want to thank the readers of So6ix Magazine, our family, and our friends who voted us the best non-profit in OKC for 2015. As one of five finalists in our category, we are truly humbled to be recognized for the continued work of our organization. To

A Ringer's Christmas Traditions
We caught up with founding member Cheryl Scott and asked her what her favorite Christmas traditions are. Here is what Cheryl had to say: Usually the weekend before Christmas my dad would bring in a living tree no matter what country we were stationed in. The pungent smell of evergreen would permeate our home for the next few weeks. After he had added the lights, we children were allowed to decorate. It was a treasure hunt as we unwrapped heirloom ornaments collected from v

Not Just Another Workshop: From a Teachers Perspective
We cannot begin to thank everyone who attend Not Jut Another Workshop on Saturday, Octobe 25, 2015. We had an amazing turnout and even better feedback. Based on the numbers and the surveys it was a huge success. However, we thought about asking a few of our teachers what they thought about NJAW (as we so fondly called it). Here is what they had to say. "Two weeks crammed into four days; that is what it felt like at Handbell Musicians of America’s Pinnacle event. As we left th

Are You Still Ringing Handbells?
Continuing involvement in music is a good way to remain active both socially and mentally. Music is the one activity that uses both sides of your brain at the same time. Ringing handbells creates a firing process in your mind that no other activity can do. Many of us do not ring handbells as a solo instrument, so it becomes a social activity as well. Those you see at handbell rehearsal may not be your best friends, but you have something in common that other groups do not eve

OCHE Welcomes CORD
Earlier today, the board of directors for CORD (Central Oklahoma Ringers & Directors) made the difficult decision to disband their organization after twenty-five years of delivering exceptional educational workshops and festivals to handbell and handchime ringers across Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. Part of CORD's decision to disband included the knowledge that OCHE would keep delivering the same expert level of workshops and festivals in Oklahoma for the next generation of ha

Saying Goodbye
Since the fall of 2008, Silver has led our Ensemble through many changes, concerts, and fun times. We can truly say that without the graceful guidance of this dedicated individual, OCHE would not be where we are today. Please join us in bidding a heartfelt fairwell to Silver as she embarks on her next adventure. #director #newsletter
A New Newsletter Experience
Okay. So there really aren't any new newsletter experiences that we can achieve as a society. Electronic and print newsletters have been around for more years than many of us care to admit. However, most newsletters tend to be too long and contain only mildly interesting stories and information. We are hoping to break that cycle! Beginning in August, we will be starting our monthly e-newsletter! You can sign up on the home page of our website any time of day or night. The new

Music Mission: Jamaica Edition
This past May, I was invited by Venita MacGorman to travel with the St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church team to Jamaica on a music mission trip. Our goal was to equip the local congregations with enough music reading skills to make use of their new Caribbean hymnal on a regular basis. We did that through music reading sessions with adults and children as well as small group guitar, piano, recorder, and drum sessions. Since my return from Jamaica. I've had countless people a
